Thuringian Educational Framework
🎓 Thuringian Curriculum in Secondary School (Lower Secondary) at the German International School Accra
Competency-based. International. Future-oriented.
At the secondary level, the German International School Accra follows the Thuringian Curriculum for Regelschule—a well-established framework for German international schools. This curriculum adheres to the official educational standards of the German Conference of Ministers of Education (KMK) and allows for flexible, student-centred instruction that prepares learners for success in a globalised world.
The focus lies on subject knowledge, methodical variety, and interdisciplinary learning, alongside key cross-curricular skills such as teamwork, media literacy, and presentation techniques.
The Thuringian Curriculum ensures a smooth transition to further education in Germany, forming the academic basis for German school-leaving qualifications (e.g. Hauptschule and Realschule certificates within the German Schools Abroad system). At GISA, it is complemented by international curricula, such as the Cambridge Pathway.
