A Bridge Builder and Friend of GISA – an Afternoon with Gerald Asamoah

During a relaxed afternoon by the sea, we had the pleasure of meeting Gerald Asamoah again – someone who has long been much more than just a partner of our school, but a true friend of GISA. Away from official appointments, there was plenty of time for personal conversations, shared memories and, of course, a few anecdotes from the past years.

Gerald embodies in a very special way much of what our school stands for. Born in Ghana and raised in Germany, he connects both countries and both worlds in a very natural way. With his open, warm and humorous personality, his own life story and his strong social commitment, he is a wonderful ambassador for what GISA aims to be: a place that builds bridges, connects people, creates opportunities and takes responsibility.

The afternoon was also an opportunity to look back at what has developed over the past years: the life-saving heart surgeries made possible in Ghana by the Gerald Asamoah Foundation together with its medical partners, the visits and support of the doctors from Duisburg by our school community, the scholarships that open up long-term educational opportunities for children, and, of course, the Gerald Asamoah Football Academy, which has become an important part of everyday life for many children.

At the same time, the conversation was very much about the future. There are many ideas for further joint activities and plenty of opportunities to continue bringing the connection between Gerald, his foundation and our school to life.

And despite all the projects, one thing stood out in particular: Gerald was especially interested in how “his” children at GISA are doing – how they have developed, how they have settled into school and what has become of them. That personal interest perhaps best describes why this relationship has long grown beyond a simple partnership.

A wonderful afternoon among friends – full of memories, new ideas and plenty of enthusiasm for the next steps together.
