Building Bridges: Bavarian Delegation Visits the German International School Accra

On 25 September 2026, the German International School Accra was delighted to welcome a high-level delegation from Bavaria. The guests included Tobias Gotthardt, State Secretary at the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, Dr Sebastian Bittl, Ruth Müller, Member of the Bavarian State Parliament, Charlotte Griese, as well as Dr Michael Blank, Delegate of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana (AHK Ghana).

Headmaster Rainer Kropp-Kurta introduced the guests to the German International School Accra and highlighted the school’s very positive development in recent years. One particularly impressive indicator is the growth in student numbers: while 72 students attended the school in August 2023, this number has risen to 135 by September 2026.

The presentation also focused on the continuous expansion of the secondary school and the pathway towards further school-leaving qualifications, the combination of German and international educational standards, and the central role of the German language in everyday school life. The Excellence Scholarship Programme, which provides high-achieving Ghanaian students with access to a German-international education, also attracted considerable interest.

The delegation also learned more about the school’s diverse partnerships, including those with Gesamtschule Berger Feld and the University of Potsdam, as well as its cooperation with the Gerald Asamoah Foundation and the Gerald Asamoah Football Academy. Projects and events such as the German Language Day further demonstrate GISA’s role as a cultural bridge between Ghana and Germany.

The guests followed the presentation with great interest and expressed their appreciation for the school’s positive development. Numerous detailed and well-informed questions led to a lively exchange and reflected the delegation’s expertise in educational and international matters.

A short tour of the campus afterwards gave the visitors an opportunity to experience the school environment and gain an impression of everyday life at GISA.

The visit provided the German International School Accra with a valuable opportunity to present its development, educational work and international network – very much in the spirit of the school’s guiding principle: “Brücken bauen – Building Bridges.”
