Community with Heart – GISA Supports Medical Team at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital
With coffee, fresh fruit and light snacks, our school community surprised the doctors, nurses and other medical professionals of the Gerald Asamoah Foundation today at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Jamestown, Accra. This gesture of appreciation was our way of saying thank you for the tireless work being done every day to help children with heart disease in Ghana. 💛☕🍍
The Gerald Asamoah Foundation’s medical mission for children with congenital heart defects officially started earlier this week. Doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals from Germany and Ghana are performing life-saving surgeries together and training local staff. The foundation, founded by former German national football player Gerald Asamoah, has long been committed to improving the lives of children with heart conditions across Africa – in close cooperation with the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and local partners.
A delegation accompanying German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier during his state visit to Ghana also visited the hospital on Monday. Among the delegates were virologist Prof. Christian Drosten and other representatives from politics, medicine and development cooperation.
A special thank-you goes to our GISA parents Thorsten, David and Jana, who were on site today providing the medical team with coffee, fruit and snacks. As the week continues, more parents will join in to help sustain the catering and support the volunteers and hospital staff on site. ❤️👏
We at GISA are proud to be part of this mission:
Since 2023, the German International School Accra and the Gerald Asamoah Foundation have maintained a strong partnership. Each year, our school provides a full scholarship to a child who has undergone a successful heart operation – giving not only life, but also education and hope. ❤️📚
A heartfelt thank-you to all parents, teachers and students who are contributing this week and showing once again: When education and compassion come together, the heart of a community beats stronger than ever.
