From Accra to Bonn: New Experiences and New Perspectives 🇬🇭🇩🇪

Our colleague Bernard Boateng is currently taking part in a special professional development programme in Germany. From 20 September to 10 October 2026, Bernard Boateng is participating in the three-week programme “Classroom Observation with Professional Development Components for Local Teachers at German Schools Abroad” in Bonn and Cologne.

The programme is designed for German-speaking local teachers at German Schools Abroad and combines classroom observations at German schools with targeted professional development opportunities. Bernard Boateng has the chance to experience everyday school life in Germany first-hand, explore new teaching methods and approaches, and exchange ideas with colleagues from Germany and other German Schools Abroad.

Bernard Boateng describes his first impressions as follows:

“Since arriving in Bonn, I have gained many valuable impressions and experiences. I find it particularly exciting to get to know everyday school life in Germany, discover new teaching methods and exchange ideas with colleagues.

My time in Bonn gives me the opportunity to contribute my own experience as a teacher of German as a foreign language while also learning many new things. I am very much looking forward to the coming weeks, the encounters and the many shared experiences.”

The stay builds on the FOLK professional development programme for German-speaking local teachers, which Bernard Boateng already took part in during the previous school year. We are therefore particularly pleased that his application for this advanced observation programme was successful and that Bernard Boateng is now representing the German International School Accra in Germany.

For our school, programmes like this are especially valuable. They support not only the personal and professional development of our teachers, but also bring new ideas, perspectives and experiences back to Accra. This benefits the entire school community and, above all, our students.

And Bernard Boateng is also making the most of his time outside the official programme. In Cologne, of course, a photo in front of the famous Cologne Cathedral was a must. And his journey apparently even took him as far as Munich – to the Allianz Arena, a very special place for him as the home of his beloved FC Bayern Munich.

In this way, the professional development programme is complemented by personal encounters, cultural experiences and some memorable moments in Germany.

We wish Bernard Boateng a continued enriching and inspiring stay, many valuable encounters and plenty of new ideas to bring back to his work at the German International School Accra.
