King’s Day at the German International School Accra: A Celebration of Community, Culture, and Joy

This past Saturday, the German International School Accra once again became a vibrant hub of joy, connection, and intercultural exchange as we celebrated King’s Day for the second time – and with great success.

Families from the German and Dutch communities, along with many friends of our school, came together to enjoy a warm and lively afternoon. King’s Day, one of the most important national holidays in the Netherlands, is celebrated in honor of King Willem-Alexander’s birthday and stands for togetherness, openness, and a true spirit of celebration – values that strongly resonate with our school community.

A special highlight of the day was the children’s flea market, where our students enthusiastically set up their stalls, traded, and showcased their treasures. The campus was filled with a wide range of games and activities, creating a joyful and engaging atmosphere for all ages. Delicious food and refreshing drinks added to the festive experience.

One of the standout moments was the inspiring cultural performance by the Universal Wonderful Street Academy (UWSA), which captivated the audience and beautifully demonstrated the power of art and culture to bring people together.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the dedicated organizers Judith Doe, Denise Schoechert, and Paulien Peeters-Becker for their outstanding commitment and energy in making this event possible. Our gratitude also goes to all supporting parents and helpers who contributed to this wonderful day.

King’s Day at the German International School Accra is more than just a celebration – it is a true reflection of who we are: a community that builds bridges, brings people together, and celebrates diversity.

We are already looking forward to next year!
