Newsletter 26.06.2026
With the last day of school now here, another exciting and successful school year at the German International School Accra comes to an end. Together, we have learned, laughed, performed, celebrated, explored new ideas, and created lasting memories. Countless projects, events, and shared experiences have enriched our school community and once again demonstrated what makes GISA so special: diversity, togetherness, and the joy of learning.
This final newsletter of the school year looks back on some of the highlights of the past few days while also looking ahead to the 2026/27 school year. We would like to thank all our students, families, staff members, and friends of GISA for their trust, support, and commitment throughout the year.
We wish our entire school community a relaxing and well-deserved summer break and look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday, 17 August 2026.
A Memorable End to the School Year
Our school community came together to celebrate the end of the 2025/26 school year with a joyful and emotional celebration attended by students, families, staff, and many guests.
The afternoon began with our annual "GISA Got Talent" competition, where students from Grades 1 to 8 impressed the audience with outstanding dance, singing, and performance acts. The K-Pop Stars claimed first place and opened the official end-of-year celebration with their winning performance.
The ceremony also provided an opportunity to say farewell to kindergarten children, students moving on to new schools, and several valued members of staff. One particularly emotional moment was the retirement of our long-serving security officer, Albert Kpenbaare, who was honoured after an incredible 37 years of dedicated service to GISA.
Musical performances, dances, and personal reflections celebrated the many achievements of the past school year. Afterwards, families enjoyed a delicious buffet organised by the Parent Council and many parent volunteers before rounding off the evening together at the public viewing of the FIFA World Cup match between Ecuador and Germany.
Our sincere thanks go to all students, parents, staff members, the Parent Council, and everyone who contributed to making this wonderful celebration possible.
A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Parent Council
Just before the end of the school year, our staff received a wonderful surprise. On behalf of the Parent Council and many families, a beautifully decorated cake was presented to the GISA team as a token of appreciation.
We are deeply grateful for this thoughtful gesture and for the trusting partnership we enjoy with our parent community. It is yet another reminder that GISA is much more than a schoolβit is a caring and supportive community. Thank you for your trust, encouragement, and continued support throughout the year.
Congratulations to Our DAF Intensive Class Graduates
This week, we proudly celebrated the successful graduation of our 2026 DAF Intensive Class.
Over the past months, the students have worked with remarkable dedication to strengthen their German language skills and prepare for joining our regular classes. We warmly congratulate all graduates and extend our sincere thanks to their teachers, Denise Schoechert and Benjamin Akrong, for their outstanding commitment and support.
The DAF Intensive Class is a key element of our Excellence Scholarship Program (ESP), providing talented young learners from Ghana with access to a German international education. Preparations for the next cohort are already underway.
Books Begin a New Journey
Well-preserved books and teaching materials from our school have found a new home at the German School Bezaleel Educational Complex in Sunyani.
As fellow PASCH schools, we share a common commitment to promoting the German language and culture. We are delighted that these valuable resources will continue to inspire young learners and thank everyone involved in making this partnership possible.
Around the World β The 2026 DAF Summer Program
German learning continues throughout the holidays! From 6 to 24 July, our DAF students will embark on an exciting "Journey Around the World." Through games, creative projects, and interactive activities, they will strengthen their speaking skills, build confidence, and enjoy communicating in German.
The program helps students consolidate their language skills, stay motivated over the holidays, and begin the new school year with confidence. We look forward to three inspiring weeks filled with discovery, shared learning experiences, and plenty of fun.
If you have any questions about the DAF Summer Program, please contact Denise Schoechert at

Republic Day Public Holiday
The Government of Ghana has declared Friday, 3 July 2026, a statutory public holiday in observance of Republic Day.
As a result, both our Kindergarten and the GISA Summer Camp will be closed on that day.
Looking Ahead to the 2026/27 School Year
While everyone is now looking forward to a well-earned summer break, preparations for the new school year are already in full swing. We are excited to welcome our students back to campus on Monday, 17 August 2026.
The 2026/27 school year will bring several positive developments. With the exception of our intentionally combined Grades 1 and 2, all year groups will now be taught as separate classes. This allows us to respond even more effectively to the needs of each age group while further strengthening our individual approach to learning, language development, and academic excellence.
Students will also benefit from several organisational improvements. A staggered lunch schedule will create a calmer and more relaxed atmosphere during lunchtime. In addition, a wide range of extracurricular activities will once again be offered. During the first two weeks of school, students will have the opportunity to try different activities before deciding which clubs they would like to join.
Together with our catering partner, North Ridge CafΓ©, we will continue to provide freshly prepared lunches on campus each day. Families wishing to use the lunch service can register directly with the North Ridge CafΓ© team.
We are especially looking forward to welcoming our new Grade 1 students, as well as all new students and families, to the GISA community.
School Supply Lists Now Available
The school supply lists for the 2026/27 school year are now available on our website. We encourage all families to purchase the required materials before the beginning of the school year. Many of the listed school supplies are also available through the GISA School Shop.
We wish all our families a wonderful, restful, and enjoyable summer break and look forward to welcoming everyone back to GISA on Monday, 17 August 2026.
