Message from the Deputy Administrative Manager

Dear School Community,

After almost five years, I will be leaving the German International School Accra on April 30.

I am very grateful to have been part of this special community. These years have shaped me both professionally and personally, and I look back with great appreciation on many valuable experiences, inspiring encounters, and a trusting collaboration.

A new chapter now begins for me: my family and I will return to Mannheim, and we are looking forward to what lies ahead.

A smooth transition has been arranged: from April 1, Mr. Karl Stigler will gradually take over responsibilities in the administrative areas.

Thank you all very much for the time we have shared – GISA will always remain a very special place for me.
MEDAASE! 🙏🏾

Kind regards
Katharina Kaufmann

Easter Greetings from the GISA Team! 🐣🌸

2026 03 27 Team 1We wish all families a relaxing break, sunny days, and a joyful Easter!

Nursery and Kindergarten

2026 03 27 Krippe 1Over the past two weeks, everything revolved around Easter. The children created creative Easter nests for the egg hunt and greatly enjoyed expressing their own ideas and designs. Using colorful dabbing techniques, they also made cheerful Easter bunny pictures, supporting fine motor skills and creativity. Sorting Easter eggs by color playfully strengthened important cognitive skills such as categorizing and recognition. Looking at Easter books together also supported language development. A special highlight was the Easter egg hunt, which brought lots of movement, curiosity, and excitement.

What a wonderful and eventful time we have had! 🌷✨ We would like to give you a small insight:

This week was all about creativity and discovery 🎨🔢 The children had great fun with creative games involving numbers, worked diligently on crafts, and completed their Easter decorations 🐣🌸 They also created their own small books 📚, and during sensory painting they explored different materials with curiosity and joy ✋🎨

Our ears were also fully engaged 👂🎶 We explored echoes and played a sound memory game – which many children found very exciting and fascinating! 🤩

WhatsApp Image 2026 03 25 at 17.06.47Another special highlight was the football tournament ⚽🏆 All children from the football club were honored by Coach Collins and Rainer Kropp-Kurta – a motivating and exciting moment for everyone! 👏💪

And today, on Friday, the moment finally arrived … 🐰🥕 The Easter Bunny visited us! The children happily searched for their hidden baskets – a wonderful way to end this special time! 🧺💖

Primary School

Class 1/2

It was a short but lovely and varied week in Class 1/2. After distributing Eid gifts on Tuesday, Friday already brought the Easter egg hunt! The children greatly enjoyed the special moments that shaped this week.

2026 03 27 Klasse 1 2 12026 03 27 Klasse 1 2 2

In German lessons, the children played a modified version of “City, Country, River.” The questions varied, for example: “Name something you can find at a fair” or “Name something that requires courage.” A letter dice determined the starting letter for the answers. Working in groups, the children found suitable words together and later even created their own questions for the class to answer.

In Mathematics, the first graders worked intensively on bridging tens. A weekly work plan was also introduced. The second graders revisited multiplication, using the so-called “key facts” (1, 2, 5, and 10 times tables) to solve related problems.

2026 03 27 Klasse 1 2 32026 03 27 Klasse 1 2 4

In English, the children took part in a small “museum walk,” where they searched for words and matched them to sounds and letters, further developing their language awareness in a playful way.

In Music, the children celebrated a small spring party, sang spring songs, and even composed their own Easter songs, bringing in their own creative ideas.

Class 3/4

2026 03 27 Klasse 3 4 FoerderbandIn the “Strengthening Strengths” programme, the children became true film producers over the past weeks. With great creativity, they developed their own stop-motion films. They first created ideas and wrote texts, then designed figures, created speech bubbles, and took many individual photos. Step by step, they turned their stories into moving images. The result: wonderful short films that everyone could be proud of.

2026 03 27 Klasse 3 4 DeIn German lessons, the children completed their unit on adjectives and wrote a class test on this topic as well as on their current vocabulary. New vocabulary continues to be part of our daily work. In addition, partner reading was practiced, with children supporting each other and improving their reading fluency.

2026 03 27 Klasse 3 4 En 2In English, the children went on a writing adventure using different adjectives. They built sentences and used connectives to develop short texts, helping them make their writing more descriptive, structured, and engaging.

2026 03 27 Klasse 3 4 MaIn Mathematics, the two classes worked on different focus areas: Class 4 continued exploring numbers up to one million, with a particular focus on neighbouring hundred-thousands, ten-thousands, and thousands. Class 3 practiced written calculations with and without carrying. They often worked in pairs, compared their results, and discovered patterns and interesting features in their calculations.

Intensive DaF Class

This week, the Intensive DaF class worked on the topics “Easter” and, in Lesson 6, “school materials.” The motivated learners from both primary and secondary levels also revisited questions from previous lessons and used them to create their own learning games. These games were then tested in groups and played in a rotation format.

2026 03 27 Intensive DaF Klasse 12026 03 27 Intensive DaF Klasse 22026 03 27 Intensive DaF Klasse 3

In grammar, the learners were introduced to the different plural forms in German. They also continued practicing how to distinguish between different parts of speech. For Eid al-Fitr and Easter, the students not only expanded their vocabulary but also created festive crafts such as Eid gifts and Easter nests. As part of team-building activities, the learners discussed and developed ideas on how to deal with teasing and bullying.

2026 03 27 Intensive DaF Klasse 42026 03 27 Intensive DaF Klasse 5

Over the past two weeks, the DaF Intensive group completed both a vocabulary test and a learning assessment on the weekly topics and grammar. They also presented their Easter posters.

Secondary School

Class 5

In German, students explored the topic “School of the Future.” They imagined what their ideal school would look like, what rules it would have, and which subjects would be taught. They then wrote detailed descriptions of their dream schools – the more precise the description, the more vivid the result. Using AI, their ideas were finally brought to life visually, and the images were shared and discussed together. The students were very enthusiastic about the creative and diverse outcomes.

In English, students went on an exciting “exploration tour” around the school in pairs. They created as many creative and catchy headlines as possible related to our new topic, “Classic Literature.” This activity encouraged curiosity, creativity, and thoughtful reflection on word choice and meaning.

WhatsApp Image 2026 03 27 at 17.33.54In Mathematics, we continued our work in the coordinate system and explored symmetry in more depth. In particular, axial symmetry – also known as mirror symmetry – revealed interesting relationships between coordinate points. Students designed their own shapes and dictated them to their classmates using coordinates, which were then recreated.

In French, students formed sentences using newly learned verbs. Working in groups, they received word lists (nouns and adjectives) and selected appropriate verbs to create meaningful sentences (e.g. De l’eau – boire → Je bois de l’eau). This activity helped them apply verbs in everyday contexts.

With presentations on individual focus topics and the completion of their lapbooks, the unit on “Ancient Egypt” came to a successful conclusion.

Class 6

In the last week before the Easter holidays, we focused on Easter in German lessons. The students created creative Easter posters and worked together to develop questions for an Easter quiz.

In Mathematics, the focus was on multiplying and dividing fractions. Students first learned how to simplify fractions before multiplying, and then practiced dividing fractions by converting them into multiplication with the reciprocal. To conclude the unit, they created posters in small groups illustrating the four basic operations with fractions, which will serve as helpful learning tools in the classroom.

In English, students worked intensively on writing essays. In addition, they read, analysed, and wrote newspaper articles, further strengthening their writing skills.

In History, the unit on Ancient Egypt was successfully completed with the presentation of the lapbooks.

In Art, students completed their Easter nests and designed creative Easter cards.

In Physical Education, the focus was on enjoyment of movement: a 10-minute endurance run accompanied by students’ chosen music provided motivation, followed by a variety of running and sprint games that emphasized teamwork and fun.

We look back on a varied and productive week and now look forward to a relaxing holiday and a joyful Easter with our families and friends.

DaF 5/6

Over the past two weeks, we revisited the dative case in German grammar. Using texts on the topic of “road traffic,” students practiced choosing the correct articles and forming accurate sentences.

2026 03 27 DaF 5 6 12026 03 27 DaF 5 6 4

Through activities such as dative bingo and movement-based games, they were able to reinforce and apply their knowledge in a playful way. This has prepared them well for the upcoming test, which will cover the grammatical topics of the past weeks.

Class 7/8

In Biology, students explored the eating disorders anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating through a group puzzle activity. They developed both subject knowledge and a deeper understanding of the associated health consequences. A test on health, nutrition, and the human body was also completed. Currently, we are addressing a student-driven question: how healthy are energy drinks? Students are critically examining ingredients, effects on the body, and potential risks.

In Mathematics (Class 8), students worked on “stories of graphs.” They described graphs representing real-life situations such as a journey to school and, conversely, created graphs based on given descriptions. They also explored the slope of proportional functions and practiced reading it from graphs, including using GeoGebra. Drawing graphs from equations and understanding the structure of linear functions y=mx+by = mx + by=mx+b were key focus areas.

2026 03 27 Klasse 3 4 MaIn Class 7 Mathematics, students independently developed examples of proportional and inverse relationships and presented them. Everyday contexts such as football scores, shared apartment rent, or food prices were translated into mathematical relationships.

In English, students were introduced to persuasive texts using the topic of “school uniforms.” They explored arguments for and against the issue and are preparing a survey that will lead into a class debate.

2026 03 27 Klasse 7 8 En 22026 03 27 Klasse 7 8 En 7

In Geography, students are currently working in pairs on a “travel agency” project. They are planning a short trip to a city of their choice, organizing transport, accommodation, and activities, while also reflecting on the sustainability of their travel decisions.

DaF 7/8

Over the past two weeks, students focused intensively on the dative case, practicing correct article usage and sentence formation in preparation for the upcoming test.

2026 03 27 DaF 7 8 12026 03 27 DaF 7 8 2

They also began preparing a cooking project for after the Easter holidays. Students collected ideas for German and Ghanaian dishes, researched recipes, and created a shared menu. Together with the DaM students and their class teacher, Ms. Fredrich, they will prepare the dishes and create a “perfect lunch.” This project also serves as a reward for the positive working atmosphere and strong effort shown in recent weeks.
