Starting the New School Year with Good Wishes

With a joyful enrolment and welcome ceremony, the German International School Accra officially began the 2026/27 school year today. Students, parents and staff gathered on our basketball court to celebrate the start of a new school year and, above all, to warmly welcome the newest members of our school community.

Following the opening welcome and the introduction of our teaching team, the children performed the song “Ich bin anders als du” (“I am different from you”), while our Friday dancers added energy and colour with a special dance performance.

At the heart of the celebration were, of course, our new first graders. Reflecting the idea of new beginnings and the many hopes and wishes that come with the start of a school year, each child received their own wishing star. Together, the first graders filled our prepared night sky with stars – a beautiful symbol of everything that lies ahead: new friendships, exciting discoveries, challenges and many memorable moments.

Because school is about much more than lessons and timetables. It comes to life through the people who learn together, support one another and contribute their different talents, languages, experiences and ideas. In this way, many individual stars gradually form one shared sky – our school community.

Students in the other year groups were also welcomed in a special way. New children received small welcome gifts from their buddies before taking their first class photos and heading to their classrooms together. Our new Kindergarten children were welcomed with flower garlands.
In this way, the first day of school became a shared new beginning – for our first graders as well as for all students from Grades 2 to 9, for new and familiar faces, and for our entire team.

We wish all our students a school year filled with curiosity, courage, friendship and many little “shooting-star moments” – and we look forward to everything we will experience and create together in the months ahead.

A very warm welcome to the 2026/27 school year!
