Starting the New Year Together – A Warm Welcome to Our Community

Written on 12 January 2026

On Monday, 12 January 2026, the first day of school after the Christmas break, our school courtyard once again filled with life, familiar voices, and a sense of joyful anticipation. Alongside many happy reunions, there was a particularly special moment this year: 13 new students joined our school community as the second cohort of the Excellence Scholarship Program (ESP).

The Excellence Scholarship Program is designed for highly motivated and talented students aged 9 to 12 in Grades 3/4, 5, and 6. Its aim is to provide targeted support and to enable a successful entry into German-language education at the German International School Accra.

A central component of the program is the intensive German language course, which the new ESP students have now begun. Until June, they receive 20 hours of German instruction per week. This program is partially integrated into the regular lessons of their respective classes, ensuring that focused language support and active participation in everyday school life go hand in hand from the very beginning.

To help the new students settle in quickly and feel welcome from day one, each child is supported by a “buddy” from their class. These buddies assist with orientation, answer questions, and often become new friends within a short time.

The first day of school also offered a wonderful opportunity for parents to connect. New and long-standing parents met afterwards for a relaxed and sociable exchange at the Swiss Club, where conversations, new contacts, and a strong sense of community naturally emerged.

We are delighted with this successful start to the new year and with the openness of our school community. We warmly welcome our new ESP students and look forward to accompanying them on their journey at our school. We are glad you are here.
