The Ruhr Region Meets Accra – Exciting Encounters with Guests from Gelsenkirchen
This week, we had the special opportunity to welcome three guests from Gesamtschule Berger Feld in Gelsenkirchen to our classroom. Evans Ankomah Kissi, Kevin Kisyna, and Sebastian Lorenz are currently visiting the German International School Accra (GISA) to learn more about our school and exchange ideas with students and staff.
Of course, we wanted to make the most of this opportunity and prepared thoroughly for their visit. Beforehand, we learned about the Ruhr region and the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. We gathered many interesting facts about the region, its history, and its importance within Germany.
We were especially interested in football. Therefore, we explored the history of FC Schalke 04 and learned how the famous rivalry between Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund began. It quickly became clear that football in the Ruhr region is much more than just a sport.
Afterwards, we worked in groups to develop interview questions for our guests. The result was a mix of interesting, informative, funny, and even challenging questions. Well prepared, we conducted the interviews and gained fascinating insights into life in the Ruhr region, school life in Germany, and the importance of football in Gelsenkirchen.
Here is a small selection of questions from our Ruhr Region and football quiz:
The answers will be revealed in the newsletter next week.
In addition to general questions, we also asked some personal ones, including:
- What is your favourite colour? Yellow?
- Dortmund or Bochum?
- Dortmund or Munich – where would you rather live?
- Have you ever played football with Gerald Asamoah?
- Which team do you support – Schalke or BVB?
True football experts might already be able to guess our guests’ answers.
We would like to thank our guests from Gelsenkirchen for their visit and look forward to many more exciting encounters and conversations in the future.
