Treasured Books Find a New Home – Learning Materials for the German School Bezaleel Educational Complex in Sunyani
At the German International School Accra (GISA), preparations for the upcoming school year are already well underway. As part of this process, we have been reviewing our bookshelves, storage rooms, and teaching resources. With our student population continuing to grow, the needs of our classrooms evolve regularly. During this review, it became clear that a number of well-preserved books, textbooks, and learning materials would no longer be used in our day-to-day teaching.
Rather than allowing these valuable resources to remain unused, we looked for an opportunity to place them where they could continue to support learning and inspire young minds.
Last week, the time had finally come: books, textbooks from various grade levels, and materials from our library were carefully packed and sent on their journey to Sunyani. Thanks to the initiative of Olivia Habtezghi, Head of our Kindergarten, and the excellent organisation of the transport, the four large boxes arrived safely at their destination.
The German School Bezaleel Educational Complex is part of the worldwide PASCH network (“Schools: Partners for the Future”) and, like GISA, is committed to promoting the German language and culture. The connection between our schools dates back to October of last year, when a delegation from the school travelled approximately 370 kilometres from Sunyani to Accra to participate in the Day of the German Language on our campus. Their commitment to fostering German-language education and exchange in Ghana laid the foundation for the relationship that continues to grow today.
The joy upon receiving the materials was immense. Shortly afterwards, we received a heartfelt video message from the learners, expressing their gratitude and excitement.
Around 100 children, from nursery through Grade 6, attend the school in Sunyani. German plays an important role in the curriculum, with at least four hours of German lessons per week offered in Grades 1 to 6. Through engaging and interactive learning experiences, the children discover the German language and culture with great enthusiasm.
We are delighted that these books and materials will continue to be used in a new environment. This initiative demonstrates how educational institutions can benefit from collaboration, responsible resource management, and mutual support. We wish the learners in Sunyani many enjoyable hours of reading, discovering, and learning German, and we look forward to future encounters within the PASCH network.
