German in Action: Speaking, Practising and Making Progress!

This week was once again all about: learning German, trying things out and, above all, speaking!

After a short review, we first took a closer look at the structure of German statements – because in a German sentence, too, every word wants to be in the right place! Afterwards, the two learning groups continued with different areas of focus.

The A2 learners worked with adjectives and explored how they can make their sentences more precise, varied and interesting. The B1 learners focused on the connectors “um … zu” and “damit”. After a few exercises, it was time to put what they had learned straight into practice.

And then things became practical: Both groups carried out dialogues and interviews and recorded them using our digital learning portfolio LearningView. This gave the students the opportunity not only to speak German, but also to listen to themselves afterwards – a great way to reflect on their own language progress from a different perspective.

The topic “Shopping in the City and in the Countryside” brought German learning even closer to everyday life. What kinds of shops are there? Where do we go shopping? And are the shopping opportunities in Germany the same as in Ghana? The students talked about their own neighbourhoods and discovered quite a few similarities as well as some interesting differences.

At the end of the week, learning became playful once again: With LOGICO MAXIMO and LÜK, the students were able to show what they had learned over the past few weeks. Careful reading, concentration and a good feel for grammar were all needed. And the best part: They could check their answers independently and immediately.

That’s how learning German becomes real fun!
